Well Water Softening

Some things are just better when they’re soft—like kittens or your favorite sweater straight from the dryer and your well water. That’s right, there’s no room for hard water when it comes to keeping your pluming and appliances running smoothly, washing your car or dishes and cleaning your bathroom fixtures like your tub and toilet. However, well water has a tendency to naturally have more minerals you’re accessing a water source that’s deeper underground. That can be a good thing, as you need some of those minerals to be healthy. But too much of a good thing can backfire.

Well water softening – or water treatment – removes magnesium, calcium and other contaminants that your well water might have. This leads to soft iron-free water which works better with soap and extends the life of your plumbing. The most popular way to soften water is via ion-exchange resins.

What’s the Big Deal?

Certain minerals and metals can lead to a host of problems. It can cause limescale to build up, can harm plumbing and hot water tanks, encourages corrosion and hard water just doesn’t play nicely with many soaps. Even tiny amounts of iron can stain sinks, fixtures and flooring—not to mention the fact that the taste is less pleasing and may even have an odor.

Hard water leads to soap scum residue, causes dry skin and leave clothes less clean. Whether you notice a red flag for hard water or not (such as a water spotted dishes or soap failing to make bubbles), it’s wise to get your well water tested to make sure it’s clean and healthy. In fact, we offer free well water testing to see if water treatment is a viable option for you.
